How to Pack a Wardrobe Box

Wardrobe boxes are a great way to move and store your clothing without having to take anything off of the hanger.  The boxes come with integrated handles that make carrying them a breeze. Once the boxes have arrived at your new destination the clothes can remain in the boxes, as they’re a convenient way to store your clothes until you’re fully unpacked.

How to use a wardrobe box

First, you’ll need to assemble the box. If a hanging rod was not included with the wardrobe box you’ll need to purchase one separately. Follow the instructions included with the box, making sure the hanging rod is secure.

Now is a good time to take an inventory of your closet and decide what is coming with you. Measure any large garments to make sure they will fit. Start removing sections of clothing, keeping them on the hangers, and place the items on the rod in the box. Fill the box until full, making sure to not over stuff.

Once full, close the box by folding up the front flaps. The front flaps should reach the metal bar, but not go over it. Now, fold the side flaps up and secure all flaps with packing tape. Tape all seams and around the top section. Label the box with large lettering. Be sure to note what the contents are and what room the contents belong in.

Wardrobe boxes should be loaded into the moving van in the upright position. Be careful not to put heavy cartons on top of them because this could cause the box top to collapse. Once the boxes are unloaded at the new home, they can be unpacked when convenient and folded flat for storage for future use.
